Dossett's interest in a theatrical career began at Mount Pleasant High School in Wilmington, Delaware, where he appeared in student productions and was involved with the school's radio station, WMPH. In 1982 he joined the cast of Fifth of July, after which the bulk of his work was in off-Broadway productions and on television.
