In 1949, 15-year Zhang served as a voice actor in the translation team of the Northeast Film Studio. From 1955 to 1957, he studied at the Beijing Film Academy's Actor Specialist Course. After graduation, he played a leading role or an important role in films such as "The Waves of Life", "Red Sun", and "Scar Story".
