Ouardia Hamtouche (in Arabic: وردية حمتوش) is an Algerian actress born in 1931 in Algiers and died on January 1, 1991 (age 59), in France. She is the maternal grandmother of the French rapper of Algerian origin Karim Zenoud. Married very young, at the age of 15, she worked as a cleaner at the Mustapha Pacha hospital in Algiers, while studying. Her career as an artist began when she participated in radio broadcasts, while continuing her work as a hospital cleaner at night. A few years later, she participated in comedies by performing various roles for television, theater and cinematographic works, such as Le Mariage des dupes by Hadj Rahim, alongside Mustapha El-Anka, El taxi el makhfi or Sombrero by R .Bouberas. Having quickly become popular, Ouardia was able to conquer the Algerian public with her simple and natural appearance as a typically Algerian “mamma” which made her so close to lived reality and with her Algerian satire closer to a Rachid Ksentini, a Mohamed Touri. She died on January 1, 1991 of a heart attack in a hospital in France.
